Total Swimming support local community with high quality temporary facilities
Andover pool and sports hall closed in early 2017, and the new leisure centre is due to open in spring 2019. Test Valley Borough Council needed to maintain facilities, so Total Swimming worked with Box to provide a temporary 25m pool which can be removed with minimal impact when the new facilities are open.
The swimming pool is a 1.2m deep modular deck level pool sat on top of a reinforced concrete slab which is itself placed on top of the car park surface. The facility includes male and female changing areas, viewing area, office and reception. All facilities are contained within a temporary building, which was erected in ten days following completion of the concrete slab. Building, pool and ground bearing slab can all be deconstructed and removed at the end of the hire period.
As one of many projects for Total Swimming, Box provided architectural and principal designer services from planning onwards and worked alongside our client and the main contractor, John Atherton.
To keep swimming facilities in place for the local community, the project was delivered at a rapid pace. The whole project was erected within just 20 weeks.
- Delivering a community pool for lessons and open swimming
- Temporary 25m pool, demountable when new facilities in place
- Construction period of 20 weeks to keep swimming facilities in place
