New 25 metre modular pool and gym dance and spin facilities, meeting the need for a dedicated centre in Rainham, for Havering Borough Council
Box Architects worked closely with ReCreation from the very initial stages of the project, including strategic site selection and briefing with Havering Council, to develop a new community pool, including an 80 station Gym, Dance studio and Spin Studio. We completed the detailed design and saw the project through to completion in July 2023.
“We are excited to appoint Total Swimming once again as our chosen leisure developer to design, procure and realise this 25m pool and leisure centre for the community of Havering. Their experience and track record in building pools of industry-changing value made them our go-to choice here.””
Duncan Cogger – Regional Director – Everyone Active.
We engaged with the planners early on to design a building that responded to the local need and context, the site was adjacent the Rainham Conservation area which heavily influenced the design, and the leisure centre is a modern reinterpretation of form and material.
The development of the scheme coincided with Lockdown in March 2020 caused by Covid-19, however with an engaged design team and a proactive client, the scheme was presented at a number of pre-application meetings, a Quality Review Panel, and a Strategic Planning Committee in order to refine the scheme and its connection to the nearby park.
Landscape forms a key element of the proposal, by strategically locating the building, we were able to use the site topography to build a lower-cost above ground pool without any internal levels changes within the client journey.
- 25m pool constructed using above ground modular panels.
- Creates a unique building in a unique setting, responding to and becoming an integral part of the public open space.
