Making a splash with modular learn-to-swim pool in Sheffield
Box Architects have designed a new swimming pool in Sheffield using modern methods of construction to reduce lead times and create a more cost-effective build.
The swim! Sheffield facility in Archer Road retail park provides learn-to-swim opportunities for the community. It’s been built on the site of an existing retail unit and used off-site fabrication and above-the-ground modular methods and to minimise the groundwork required and reduce the overall time for construction.
“As part of our mission to break down barriers for children to reach their true potential, we are so proud to offer quality, bespoke, affordable leisure facilities. It’s been a fantastic journey seeing swim! Sheffield come to life. From Box’s initial work on the design which blew us away, to now opening our doors to the local community, we’re sure this facility will be enjoyed for years to come.”
Adrian Turner – Director, ReCreation.
However, visitors are unlikely to see the difference between the new pool and traditional facilities. As well as the 18m x 7m pool, it features modern changing facilities, reception area and a viewing gallery, and can cater for beginner swimmers from new- born to 11 years.
“We aim to help children learn an all-important life skill through innovative and enjoyable classes that combine learning with fun,” said Adrian Turner, a director at The Recreation Group. “Customer engagement in Sheffield has exceeded expectations, and Box’s work on the design and delivery of this facility contributed hugely to this.”
The pool opened in April 2021 and is the latest collaboration between Box Architects and swim! following successful projects in Warrington and Oldham.
