Is wellbeing for the many… or the few?

Box Architects director Graham Place has returned from the London Real Estate Forum energised by an intriguing question.

“The London Real Estate Forum was as inspiring as ever… but most interesting was the noticeable shift in focus. Previously, the forum has concentrated on office and high-end – this time it was encouraging to see topics such as infrastructure, homes, the challenge of affordability, digital infrastructure and wellbeing.

While this last point focused on wellbeing in offices, I was intrigued by a question from the floor, namely: ‘What about the wellbeing of construction workers?’. I’ve thought a lot about this question (and the exchanges that followed) since I returned, and I would encourage us all to consider wellbeing as a topic for the majority of working people, not just the elite: the retail workers, the ever-expanding network of food and beverage workers, the logistics workers and, yes, also the construction workers.

Here at Box, we’ll will be considering this broader topic in future newsletters and website posts. Thanks to LREF for the inspiration!”
