Mentoring the next generation of architects

Box Architects are supporting RIBA Future Architects for the second year.

The scheme provides advice and information about studying architecture, as well as offering a student mentoring scheme… which is where we come in. In line with our commitment to encourage young people entering the profession, we’re mentoring two students from the University of Huddersfield.

Of course, the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and our ‘working from home’ norm has changed how we do things. But it has not dissuaded us from increasing our involvement from one student last year.

The two students, who are in their second and final years respectively, are engaging remotely through our internal training initiative, Box Academy, and will benefit from the knowledge and real-life experience of our team. In particular, we hope to allay many of the concerns and anxieties many of today’s students have about the profession.

“Our mentoring programme is designed to help students connect with the world of professional practice (albeit distanced and remotely this year),” said Box Architects’ CEO, Graham Place. “Students are showing true grit and determination to continue their studies remotely, in a field that is all about collaboration and interaction with others, so we’re delighted to be increasing our support.”
