Residents are being asked to share their views on a new Box-designed leisure centre in East London.
Havering Council have identified two sites for the new facility in Rainham, which will include a six-lane swimming pool, 72-station fitness suite and dance studio.
Our modular approach means a single design can be modified for each proposed site – and, importantly, can be constructed quickly and cost-effectively. First, however, local residents are being invited to take part in a public consultation.
“We have two sites where we think a new leisure centre might work, but now we need a conversation with local residents to gauge what they think,” said Councillor Damian White, the Leader of Havering Council. “Access to quality sporting facilities should be a right for everyone. That’s why I’m delighted our Council is committed to providing a state-of-the-art, brand new leisure centre in the south of the borough.”
When developing proposals to replace the outdated and unsafe Chafford Sports Complex, council officers looked at Becontree Heath Leisure Centre in Dagenham, where Box Architects worked with Total Swimming to deliver a 50m pool using the modular above-deck construction method.
The Rainham pool will be the fourth collaboration between Box and Total Swimming, following the successful completion in 2017 of pools in Andover for Test Valley Borough Council and Warrington for swim!
